I have decided to switch back to tumblr for this part of my internet life. At some point this summer I am going to redo this website [again] and try to integrate my tumblr life with this site. But until then all meaningless time waster blog posts will be located at www.janehall.tumblr.com & all tech/scholastic stuff (basically anything with words) will stay at http://www.jane-hall.com/tech-thoughts.html
YOU GUYS if I ever actually make it big I am buying a jacket like this and wearing it everyday for the rest of my life... I will be the most ~badass~ Granny in all the nursing home. Oh and I almost forgot- Britney Spears wore this jacket in her "Till The World Ends" video. Yo Brit, lemme get that jacket so I can wear it till the world ends while you run around in this tacky garb.
I was working on some posts for the Tech Thoughts part of this site.... but then I got distracted on Tumblr....
I used to be obsessed with studs and they have been on my mind once again after the Burberry show last Monday: After what feels like a million years since I have last posted, I promise I will be more frequent with this blog. Back in the day of my Tumblr prime I used to post multiple times each day-- let's see if I can get back to that. It has been a wild few weeks-- went to NYC with my mom and aunt, landed a Google internship for the summer, thought I had discovered what it felt like to have the world on a string. Then last week I lost a dear friend and learned more about life in the span of 72 hours than I think I ever will again. Still digesting what kind of impact it will have on my outlook, but I am hoping that one day I will be able to realize how much joy Charlie brought to our lives and how much I learned from him without dwelling on his life being cut short. Even after his death he has continued to teach me-- he has shown me a new way to view the world I live in and has given the phrase carpe diem a less cliche significance. “To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent people, and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest critics;
and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived . . this is to have succeeded.” Ralph Waldo Emerson (imported from a September blog post) In many of my classes and interviews I have been asked what my favorite ad is. I have always anticipated this question but never mastered a good answer. This morning I found the original TV spot from one of my favorite Apple quotes. I think I finally have a favorite ad. (Shoutout to the TBWA\Chiat\Day LA office) Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. - Apple Inc. #ripsteve(imported from a July blog post) I love the simple layout and graphic progression of this print ad for the renovated Auburn Nike store. Wieden + Kennedy has done great things with Nike- a partnership that has a strong history. One of my favorite Nike spots is The Morning After, which is "a satirical look at what a runner might face on the morning of January 1, 2000 if every dire prediction about Y2K came to fruition." I like this ad because of the exaggerated dramatic effects, but also because I can remember Y2K and the waves of panic that spread before the event. I am still bitter that my parents didn't wake me up to see the ball drop that night- at age 8 I deserved it, right? |
